I am surprised that's what you took from it - of course I understand the supremacist meaning behind the term 'white passing' - this piece was an attempt to address that by offering another view of what 'passing as white' can instead mean. Maybe this was not explicit enough.

I of course also know that I am mixed race and whilst the racial / genetic complexities around race are indeed interesting and truer to the notion of 'race’; - as you aptly remind, than the simplistic, binary, perspectives of black and white - it is unfortunately not what is 'seen'. And it is this more shallow, inaccurate - what is seen - experience that I am speaking about, because that has been my experience.
