White and Indian Guyanese over here, wrote on white passing a little while ago and I´m astonished at the similarities in our experiences, I don´t know why really, it of course makes sense, but maybe its because its a topic I have so seldom heard discussed and written about. I am not good at the coming out part - when I do, especially where its within a conversation on race / racism / coloniality etc I do so carefully or at a much later stage to try not to center my obviously privileged experience. There is a tricky dynamic between asserting some legitimacy you do hold in conversations by way of your own mixed identity, whilst not over asserting or co-opting in some way an experience / identity that you clearly do not share in the same way. I haven´t found the comfortable spot / script and find it annoyingly awkward. Thanks for this, I realise a long time ago, but its only now come up as a suggestion for me!
